Over 330 displaced civil servant teachers, some residing in Lleida, must travel up to 300 km daily to reach their provisional posts, denouncing "institutional mistreatment" due to errors in last summer's assignments.

The Independent Central Union of Civil Servants (Csif) has labeled the situation “institutional mistreatment,” noting that 331 teachers are affected due to “errors in last summer’s assignments.” The union demands “transparent assignments, service commissions for health reasons, and exchange mechanisms among teachers” from the Department of Education.
One of the affected teachers is Merche Berbel, a Lleida resident with 23 years of experience, who was assigned to Segur de Calafell. She feels “disappointed” as her goal was to move closer to Lleida, but she ended up in Sant Boi de Llobregat the first year and Segur de Calafell this year. Similarly, Ivet Escándil, who lives in Fraga but is on the Lleida list, was assigned to Vilafranca del Penedès, forcing her to take a reduction in working hours to make the commute viable.

"Driving 300 kilometers a day, leaving at 6 in the morning, with the economic, physical, and emotional costs, is extremely hard. I started the course with my morale on the floor and had to take sick leave for stress and anxiety."

Mireia Gascón, who lives in Juneda, secured a post in 2024 and was assigned first to Badalona and then to El Prat de Llobregat. She reported that the economic strain, including 600 euros spent on gasoline, and the emotional stress were so severe that she had to take leave for anxiety.
In parallel, unions USTEC, Professors de Secundària, CCOO, CGT, and UGT accused the Department of Education of failing to fulfill an explicit commitment to present a salary proposal at the scheduled meeting. Union spokespersons stressed that there was a “concrete commitment that has not been respected” and called for a demonstration in Barcelona to demand a salary increase to offset the loss of purchasing power.

"Without a salary proposal, there is no negotiation."
