The Lleida City Council, through the Department of Good Governance and Feminist Policies, has presented the congress which aims to lead the change towards real and effective equality, placing women's rights at the center of public policies. Mayor Fèlix Larrosa highlighted the city's ambition to be a benchmark in this area and to promote a municipal front of intermediate cities as a driver of feminist transformation.
The congress will address key issues such as economic justice, the right to a life free from gender-based violence, egalitarian governance, and cooperation between intermediate cities. It aims to offer structural solutions to make cities fairer, more egalitarian, sustainable, and cohesive, recognizing the work done by Lleida women throughout history.
The fourth deputy mayor, Carme Valls, emphasized the participatory nature of the congress and the importance of building cities that consider the time for life, not just productive time. The congress culminates a project initiated in 2025 that has gathered over 3,200 proposals from women.
The program is structured into four discussion panels: Right to economic justice, Right to a life free from gender-based violence, Right to egalitarian governance, and Network of Intermediate Cities. The opening ceremony will feature Fèlix Larrosa, Mayor of Lleida; Eva Menor Cantador, Minister of Equality and Feminism of the Generalitat; and Ana Redondo García, Minister of Equality of the Spanish Government. The inaugural lecture will be delivered by sociologist Marina Subirats Martori.
A space will be dedicated to female genealogies, recovering the trajectories of 24 women from Lleida who have paved the way. This initiative aims to extend the congress beyond La Llotja, making the city a space for memory and recognition. Notable participants include Matilde Fernández, Alda Facio, Rosa Cobo, Sonia Vaccaro, Núria Varela, Sara Berbel, Laura Peracaula, and Inés Rey.
Participation in the Congress is free and open to all with prior registration. Additionally, throughout October, parallel activities such as exhibitions, music, and a feminist bibliographic display will take place. The congress is organized by the Department of Feminist Policies of the Lleida City Council in collaboration with the Department of Equality and Feminism of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
