An expedition of forty-one aid workers and health professionals from Lleida departed yesterday for the Sahrawi refugee camps in Tindouf to carry out the fifth humanitarian mission organized by Lleida pels Refugiats.

About twenty health professionals and aid workers started the journey from Lleida, joining other volunteers from Barcelona and the area, completing the 41 people forming the expedition. This mission, promoted by the organization Lleida pels Refugiats, will remain in the camps until February 17.

"Surely this help will be welcomed there."

The president of the association, Pilar Sierra, highlighted that the fifth health mission incorporates a surgery and anesthesia team this year, allowing surgical interventions to be performed directly in the camps. The team includes specialists in pediatrics, gynecology, family medicine, traumatology, dermatology, and nursing.
In addition to direct medical assistance, the expedition aims for training and knowledge exchange with local Sahrawi health workers. The team traveled with one ton of humanitarian aid material, including medicines, sanitary equipment, and school supplies. For many, such as documentarian Iolanda Sebé, this is their first cooperation experience.
