The sentence, which is now final, results from an agreement between the defense, the prosecution, and the private accusation. The defendant was sentenced to five years in prison for attempted homicide and an additional year for threats made against the injured man's partner. Initially, the Prosecutor's Office sought a 10-year sentence.
In addition to the custodial sentence, the convicted man must pay 440,000 euros in compensation to the victim, who has been recognized with absolute incapacity due to severe sequelae. This figure increased compared to the initial request of 421,000 euros.
The events took place on the morning of July 1, 2023, on Xavier Puig i Andreu Street in Pardinyes, when the two individuals started an argument, presumably over a traffic incident. According to the Public Ministry, the aggressor stabbed the victim four times in the neck and back, using a knife taken from his vehicle.
Subsequently, the aggressor attempted to attack the injured man's partner, who took refuge inside the car. The individual struck the car windows with the knife before fleeing home, where he was arrested by the Mossos d'Esquadra. The victim was evacuated in critical condition to Hospital Arnau de Vilanova and later transferred to Hospital Vall d'Hebron, taking over a year and a half to recover.
The sentence also imposes a restraining order of 200 meters for five years concerning the assaulted man and four years concerning the woman he threatened. The assaulted man, for his part, has been acquitted of the minor crimes of injuries and threats initially attributed to him.
