The writer Òscar Palazón, originally from Lleida, has been awarded the prestigious Premi Mallorca de Narrativa, valued at 25,000 euros, for his innovative novel Stabat Mater. Un vent diví, presented in Binissalem.
The most striking feature of the winning novel, Stabat Mater. Un vent diví, is its radical structure: it consists of a single sentence spanning 180 pages. The author, who resides in Tarragona, explained that the goal was to replicate the natural functioning of the human brain.
“
"It is an interior monologue. When we think or remember, we do not organize ideas into paragraphs or sentences. We do not use periods. This is what I wanted to reproduce in the book, the way our brain works."
The title references the medieval hymn Stabat Mater, which describes the Virgin Mary's grief at the foot of the cross. The novel explores the question: “How far would a mother go to protect and defend her child?”
Palazón, who holds a degree in Anglo-Germanic Philology, is known for breaking literary conventions. In 2025, he published Quiquiriquic (Onada), a monovocalic poetry collection. He argues that experimentation, accepted in music and poetry, should be embraced in narrative fiction.

"Receiving an award always brings joy. The fact that someone who doesn't know you values your work is a huge injection of self-esteem. Furthermore, in this case, the financial prize is also generous."
The writing process lasted eleven continuous months, starting in September of last year and concluding in late August, just in time for the submission deadline. The novel is scheduled for publication around Sant Jordi's Day.
