Father Ramon Prat was a central figure in the religious and academic sphere of Lleida. He was the founder of the Institute for Religious Research and Studies of Lleida (IREL), an entity he directed for 25 years, and also served as a professor at the Faculty of Theology of Catalonia. Furthermore, he was appointed Vicar General of the diocese by Bishop Joan Piris and acted as diocesan administrator until the arrival of Monsignor Salvador Giménez.
Born in Lleida in 1945, Prat was ordained a priest in 1969 by Monsignor Ramon Malla. After studying at the Seminary of Lleida, he obtained a degree in Theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. Subsequently, in 1974, he achieved a Doctorate in Theology at the Faculty of Theology of Barcelona, where he was an Ordinary Professor between 2010 and 2017.
His dedication to IREL began in 1992, remaining as director for five five-year terms until 2017. In his literary aspect, he authored dozens of books and numerous articles. Regarding his pastoral work, he served as parish priest in Sant Pere de Fraga (1969-77) and later in several parishes in Lleida, such as Sant Jaume and the pastoral unit of Mare de Déu del Pilar and Santa Maria Magdalena.
Ramon Prat played a prominent role in youth and university pastoral care. He was Diocesan Coordinator of the Youth Movement for Evangelization (1977-1992) and Diocesan Delegate for University Pastoral Care (1982-2009). His influence transcended the local sphere, as he served as Counselor for Cáritas Española during two periods and, in 2016, was named Missionary of Mercy by the Holy Father.
