The protest started at Ricard Viñes Square and moved through the center of Lleida to Sant Francesc Square. Unions described the mobilization as unprecedented in the capital of the Segrià region, where thousands of educators gathered to denounce the loss of purchasing power.
“"We will report two drivers for attempting to run over protesters who were blocking the institutes' roundabout this morning."
During the morning, road blockades occurred at key points such as Espanya Square and the University Bridge. The USTEC-STEs union reported an incident on the N-II highway involving two vehicles. Protests also took place in Tàrrega, Cervera, and La Seu d'Urgell.
There is a significant discrepancy in turnout figures. While the Department of Education estimates the strike at 11.9%, unions claim it reached 70% in the Ponent area. In some schools like Enric Farreny or Manuel de Montsuart, participation was as high as 80%.
“"We are asking for lower ratios, more support and teachers in the classrooms, and to equalize our salaries with the rest of the State."
The Secretary for Educational Improvement, Ignasi Giménez, expressed hope that the proposal to be presented on February 19 will be a turning point. The regional government links these improvements to the approval of the new Generalitat budgets.
