The urban art festival GAMMA kicked off this morning in Pardinyes with the unveiling of the mural being created by artist Guillem Font on Roger de Llúria street. Throughout the week, the neighborhood will be the focus of urban art in Lleida, with the creation of four large-format murals, participatory activities, and public-engagement proposals. The mayor, Fèlix Larrosa, accompanied by deputy mayor Carlos Enjuanes and councilor Pilar Bosch, visited Font's work and met with this year's artists and directors.
The mayor highlighted the role of urban art as a tool for transforming public space, contributing to the dignity of urban environments, valuing artistic talent, and fostering neighborhood identity. Larrosa emphasized the symbolic value of holding this edition in Pardinyes, a neighborhood that has undergone significant social and urban evolution, reinforcing its centrality and projection.
The murals will be created by Guillem Font, Marta Lapeña, Slim Safont, and Txus Montejano, located respectively on Roger de Llúria street, the Plusfresc parking lot, Miquel de Cortiada street, and Jaume de Agramunt street. The works are inspired by the identity elements of Pardinyes, such as the market, local festivals, the connection with Parc de la Mitjana, and the neighborhood's relationship with urban culture and graffiti.
The program also includes guided tours with the artists, mural art workshops, and citizen participation, as well as interventions by the Ondara Art School of Tàrrega and the Municipal Art School Leandro Cristòfol of Lleida. Tattoo artist Sile and muralist Oriol Arumí will lead the transformation of the wall at the Municipal Piragüisme Center, while Jordi Tordera (Coba) will conduct a graffiti and urban art workshop in Plaça del Marraco. Illustrator Matías Tolsà will also participate with a proposal for ephemeral portraits.
The GAMMA festival focuses on transforming neighborhoods in Lleida through urban art, highlighting their roots and community. Previous editions have taken place in Balàfia and els Mangraners.
This edition brings together local, national, and state artists, fostering creative dialogue and consolidating GAMMA as a space for artistic encounters and citizen participation, aiming to place Lleida on the map of major urban art festivals.
The festival is organized by the Lleida City Council and supported by the Institut d'Estudis Ilerdencs (Provincial Council of Lleida) and the Generalitat de Catalunya, in collaboration with Montana Cans, Pintures Tarròs, and Tecnitel. Also collaborating are the Ondara Art School, the Municipal Art School Leandre Cristòfol, the association Orvepard, Comecial Mateu, Lleida Turisme, and the Department of Participation.
