The woman's insolvency situation developed over years due to complex family, economic, and work circumstances. 15 years ago, after her separation, she solely took on the upbringing of her daughter and all the financial responsibilities she shared with her ex-partner.
“"He stopped paying and wasn't working. Since I had a salary, they started garnishing mine."
The lack of a support network forced the woman to combine temporary and precarious jobs with raising her daughter, making it difficult to secure stable income. Despite this, she always tried to make payments, but surcharges and interest made the debt unmanageable.
Lawyer Marta Bergadà, who handled the case, emphasized that her client was in a very delicate personal and professional situation, marked by temporary and precarious employment. She highlighted that the debts did not stem from imprudent management on her part, but from joint obligations that, after the breakup, fell exclusively on her.
The situation worsened in 2021 with a work accident that caused severe knee injuries, requiring surgery in February 2023 and a long rehabilitation. This led to prolonged absences and further reduced her economic recovery capacity, in addition to constant telephone harassment from debt collection agencies.
“"When they told me, they gave me my life back and I could breathe again. Before, I couldn't sleep due to nerves, and now I can."
Finally, in mid-2025, the woman decided to seek help and applied for the Second Chance Law with the law firm Bergadà Advocats, achieving debt exoneration and a new beginning.
