The piece was manufactured and painted in the workshops of the Municipal Institute of Employment Salvador Seguí (IMO). This public space improvement initiative allows participants in IMO's training and employment programs to apply their acquired knowledge in a real work environment.
The Mayor of Lleida, Fèlix Larrosa, and Deputy Mayor Begoña Iglesias, visited the ongoing works and received firsthand explanations from the student-workers about the manufacturing and installation process.
The project, concluding today or tomorrow, involves excavating a 72-meter perimeter trench, forming the foundation, subsequent concreting, and the installation of the metal fence. Students specializing in Welding and Maintenance fabricated the structure, while those in Painting handled the finishing. Participants from the Taller d'Ocupació and Casa d'Oficis are involved in the installation on the square.
This initiative transforms a public space enhancement into a comprehensive training project, enabling participants to oversee the entire process, from preparation and fabrication to final placement within the city.
The project is part of "Work in the Neighborhoods," subsidized by the Servei Públic d'Ocupació de Catalunya (SOC) and managed by the IMO, at the request of the Department of Youth, Education, and Employment. Coordination was carried out with the Departments of Urban Agenda and Agricultural Space, and Sustainability.
The Casa d'Oficis program, aimed at unemployed youth aged 16 to 29, lasts 12 months and offers training in painting, welding, and carpentry, combining learning with practical experience. Participants receive a SOC scholarship for the first six months and a training contract for the subsequent six.
The Taller d'Ocupació, for unemployed individuals over 30, also spans 12 months, providing training and professional experience in public space maintenance (masonry, gardening, urban cleaning) within a real productive setting.
The IMO has opened registration for the new edition of both programs, scheduled to commence in November 2026. The new initiatives include training in welding, painting, carpentry, and public space maintenance, coupled with real-world work experience. They target unemployed residents from the neighborhoods of Mariola, Centre Històric, Rambla Ferran-Estació, Príncep de Viana-Clot, Llívia, and Secà de Sant Pere.
