Efforts to restore the drinking water supply in Anglès had to be halted overnight due to setbacks at the site. Early on Tuesday, personnel from the contracted company, Aqualia, were awaiting the arrival of additional material to resume tasks. Despite the severity of the damage, it is expected that the service can be restored throughout today, February 3.
Mayor Jordi Pibernat explained that the discovery of hard rock in the subsoil was a “good sign” as it confirms that the affected homes are founded on bedrock, alleviating initial safety concerns. This finding, however, necessitated ordering more material for backfilling, causing the delay.
“"Now, early this morning, [the material] is about to arrive, and we expect to have the base and connections ready by mid-afternoon. The problem is that the pipes, having lost so much base—almost three meters—everything has to be redone, and this is not a normal breakdown."
In the meantime, the City Council maintains provisional measures to ensure access to water. Reservoirs continue to be refilled with untreated water for cistern use, and tanker trucks have arrived since early morning, allowing citizens to collect drinking water in jerrycans.
Simultaneously, the second phase of action has begun planning: the construction of a new containment wall facing the stream, as the current one dates back to the fifties or sixties. This work, which requires drafting a project and tendering, will keep the street affected for a minimum of two months.
