The Minister of the Presidency, Albert Dalmau, emphasized that recent incidents, such as the landslide that occurred on Friday between Maçanet and Blanes, along with the current meteorological situation, have forced the executive to take this drastic decision. The primary objective, according to Dalmau, is to guarantee user safety and the right to mobility.
“"At this moment, the conditions are not being met to certify the safe mobility of citizens."
Dalmau acknowledged that these are “difficult days for the country” due to an “unprecedented volume of incidents in the recent history of the railway network”. He insisted that safety “is and will be the paramount issue” in the Government's actions, although guaranteeing mobility is also a priority. The minister issued an apology, warning that “users cannot be hostages of this situation in any case”.
The Minister of Territory, Sílvia Paneque, specified that the Secretariat of Mobility has signed a resolution to halt the service, as “guarantees of operability cannot be given across the entire network”. She added that 21 points of the railway network are being analyzed, two of them “with great intensity”, and that joint communication mechanisms will be established to avoid initial confusion.
