The entity, with over 65 years of history, has issued a statement detailing that it currently only has an eight-square-meter space, used exclusively as storage. This situation severely limits its ability to store materials, as well as to conduct training activities, photographic sessions, and other events.
The problem dates back to 2022, when AFIC had to vacate the premises previously provided by the council. Since then, the association claims a lack of effective solutions from the City Council, despite numerous meetings and proposals where the entity maintained a 'patient and collaborative stance'.
Among the alternatives proposed by the entity were the signing of a collaboration agreement, the assignment of a new space, or the creation of an entity hub, but none of these options have materialized so far. Given the lack of an effective response from the Blanes government, AFIC has chosen to suspend its collaborations with the council, a decision ratified by the members' assembly held in February of this year.
The decision to suspend collaborations with the City Council is a measure of protest and dignity.
Despite the difficulties, the entity has maintained intense activity during 2025, organizing 16 exhibitions, a dozen training sessions, competitions, photographic outings, and various collaborations with other local entities. The association, founded in 1960, has been a benchmark in the world of photography in Catalonia and at a national level, promoting initiatives such as the international Quillat competition.
Now, however, AFIC warns that the lack of adequate space and the disillusionment with the current situation could bring an end to the trajectory of a historic and culturally relevant entity for the municipality of Blanes.
