Fire with gas cylinder explosion in Blanes: one hundred residents evacuated in Els Pins neighborhood

The explosion of a butane gas cylinder caused a fire in a ten-story building in the Els Pins neighborhood, forcing the evacuation of about a hundred residents without serious injuries.

One hundred residents of the Els Pins neighborhood in Blanes were preventively evacuated early this morning due to a fire caused by the explosion of a butane gas cylinder in a ten-story building.

The incident occurred shortly after five in the morning, leaving the apartment where the fire started completely burnt out. The third floor also suffered damage, and the terrace of the first floor was affected to a lesser extent. The exact cause of the fire is still unknown.
Despite the dramatic nature of the event, there were no serious injuries. Emergency services attended to two people: one with a minor cut to the foot while leaving their home, and another for smoke inhalation, who was confined to the sixth floor.
The Local Police managed the identification and control of the approximately 100 evacuated residents while the Generalitat Firefighters extinguished the flames and checked the safety of the building. A total of 14 units participated in the operation, including personnel from the Mossos d'Esquadra and the Emergency Medical System.
Around half past seven in the morning, residents were able to return to their homes after the firefighters gave the all-clear following the structural assessment.
