La Selva records highest road mortality in Girona area for 2025

The region saw eight fatalities in a year where overall road deaths in Catalonia rose by 1%.

A total of 193 people died in 185 fatal accidents across Catalonia during 2025, marking a 1% increase compared to the previous year's figures.

According to the Servei Català de Trànsit, the la Selva region recorded 8 deaths, making it the deadliest area within the Girona province. It is followed by Alt Empordà with 7 fatalities. Overall, the Girona province maintained its annual figure of 22 deaths on interurban roads.
The AP-7 highway remains the most dangerous route in the territory with 17 victims, the second-highest toll since tolls were removed. The specific section between Hostalric and la Roca del Vallès was particularly lethal, accounting for 16 of those deaths.
Other high-risk roads included the N-II, C-58, and A-2. Despite the slight annual increase in Catalonia, the Girona area has seen an 18.5% reduction in road mortality when compared to 2019 data.
