The Maçanet de la Selva City Council approved in a plenary session this March 2026 to directly manage waste collection and street cleaning services across the entire municipality.

Until now, part of the service was provided through external contracts. According to the local government in La Selva, this shift aims to better adapt the service to local needs and strengthen oversight by municipal technical teams.
While the town center was already managed by the municipal brigade, residential estates (urbanitzacions) relied on an external company. From now on, the entire service will be unified under direct public management.
The year 2026 will also see the implementation of closed containers in the urban center and new collection points in residential areas, a system selected by residents through a participatory process.
