On the occasion of World Audiovisual Heritage Day, the Lloret de Mar Municipal Archive screened 'A Time in Images. Arseni Frigola i Roca (1923-2017)' last Wednesday at the Teatre de Lloret. This initiative highlights the audiovisual collection of the Frigola family, comprising 60 reels of home movies recorded between the 1960s and 1980s by Arseni Frigola Roca and his son, Arseni Frigola i Bosch.
Archivist Quim Daban emphasized that the collection is "very interesting and of high quality, portraying a key period of our history" and contains "images and scenes of well-known people from our town." The footage documents moments of family life, popular festivals, Cors Clavé gatherings, as well as the town's urban and tourist transformations, including sewer works, the demolition of Hostal El Rosal, and the construction of the Metropol.
The montage also includes testimony from Arseni Frigola, who discusses the technical complexity of filming and projecting movies in that era, contrasting it with the immediacy of current digital devices. The commemoration aims to raise awareness about the fragility of audiovisual documents, particularly film formats like 8mm and Super-8, which require rigorous conservation conditions.
The Lloret de Mar Municipal Archive Service (SAMLM) undertakes tasks of organization, viewing, cleaning, identification, description, digitization, and dissemination of these materials to ensure their preservation. UNESCO proclaimed October 27th as World Audiovisual Heritage Day to advocate for the value and importance of preserving these documents.
The montage 'A Time in Images. Arseni Frigola i Roca (1923-2017)' will soon be available in the Archive section of the municipal website.
