The work, by Andreu Bosch Rodoreda and Carmelo Sallés Fernández, is the result of twelve years of research into the local lexicon.

The Tossa de Mar City Council hosted the presentation of the book El català de Tossa, a twelve-year research effort aimed at preserving the local linguistic heritage.

The volume, number 21 in the Quaderns d’Estudis Tossencs collection, compiles nearly 600 pages on the local dialect, a variant of Eastern Catalan known as 'salat' which is currently in recession. It was supported by the Municipal Archive, the Girona Provincial Council, and the Institut Ramon Muntaner.

"Recovering and valuing our speech is fundamental to maintaining the cultural identity of Tossa. This book is one more step toward that goal."

Martí Pujals · Mayor of Tossa de Mar
The authors combine the local experience of Carmelo Sallés Fernández, an autodidact who has inventoried the local lexicon for over twenty-five years, with the academic rigor of philologist Andreu Bosch Rodoreda, who systematized the material scientifically.
The book is divided into three main sections: introduction, phonic and morphosyntactic characterization, and a comprehensive lexicon. It also includes cultural context, describing traditional trades and customs of Tossa, highlighting linguistic ties with L’Alguer.

"This work shows the vitality of the Tossa dialect and also its historical link with other communities in the Mediterranean. It is a legacy we want to preserve for future generations."

Andreu Bosch Rodoreda · Philologist and co-author
The presentation event, held at the La Nau hall, was attended by Mayor Martí Pujals, Deputy Natàlia Figueras, municipal archivist David Moré, and retired UB professor Lídia Pons Griera, co-director of the Linguistic Atlas of the Catalan Domain.
