The decision, taken by the Vidreres council, responds to the growing difficulty in accessing housing faced by many residents. The acquisition of the land, totaling 8,000 square meters, will be carried out through an agreement with SAREB (Spain's bad bank, officially the Society for the Management of Assets Proceeding from Bank Restructuring).
The project is designed primarily to benefit those who work in the municipality but cannot afford current rental market prices. This includes young people seeking independence and families forced to allocate an excessive portion of their salary to rent.
Furthermore, the future housing development will give special consideration to the elderly. Plans include creating homes in more accessible environments with shared services, aiming to foster coexistence and increase the safety of this demographic.
With this action, the Vidreres Town Council aims to promote the rootedness of its residents, guaranteeing access to decent and affordable housing and preventing them from having to leave the municipality for strictly economic reasons.
