Jordi Camps, accused of a continuous crime of administrative malfeasance, appeared before the Audiència de Girona, where the trial has concluded and awaits a verdict. The mayor of Vidreres asserted that the council acted swiftly to fill the vacancy of the head of the Local Police during the pandemic, opting for an internal selection process based on résumés.
“"Everyone had the same opportunities."
Camps emphasized that all his decisions were based on technical reports and external advice. He also explained that he ordered a review of one of the initial decrees upon detecting possible irregularities, which led to the suspension of the appointments and the adoption of a new organizational structure for the police force's leadership.
The other three defendants, the then inspector and two officers, also denied acting in a coordinated manner to benefit any candidate, arguing that those selected were the most qualified for the positions. In contrast, the prosecution and the private accusation maintain that the established legal procedure was circumvented and that the appointed officers did not meet the necessary requirements.
The requested penalties include 14 years of disqualification for the mayor and 10 for the inspector, while for the two officers, fines and suspension from public employment are sought.
