The problem of loneliness among the elderly in Solsonès is often an invisible reality, according to the diagnosis promoted by the Social Services of the Consell Comarcal. The study is part of the project Quan la soledat no es tria, escolta com et sents, framed within the Solsonès Km 0 Comarcal Aging Plan.
The survey, which collected 386 responses between June and July of 2025, represents 15.6% of residents over 60 in the region. The data shows that almost one in two respondents experiences moderate loneliness, while one in seven presents high or very high levels, where seeking support is already recommended.
The diagnosis, which used the De Jong Gierveld scale to measure loneliness, identifies various risk factors. The most vulnerable profiles include men, people residing in farmhouses or small municipalities, the age group between 60 and 64 years (the pre-retirement stage), and those with significant physical limitations.
A key factor in a region with territorial dispersion is mobility: lacking a private vehicle or support for travel significantly increases the risk. Furthermore, the study indicates that simple cohabitation, whether in a residence or with family, is not a protective factor; the quality and meaning of personal bonds are the determining elements in preventing isolation.
In response to the phenomenon, respondents highlighted the importance of community networks and volunteering. The Consell Comarcal believes the results should serve as a basis for strengthening public policies, promoting more spaces for connection and community activities in the territory.
