President Salvador Illa confirmed that the first phase of the Camp de Tarragona tramway will be delayed until late 2029, missing the original 2028 deadline.

During a visit to the construction site in Vila-seca, Illa explained that bureaucratic delays in the bidding process have forced a calendar adjustment. The main construction contract, worth 135.8 million euros, has been awarded to a consortium including COMSA and FCC.

"Today we reaffirm the credibility of our institutions. This infrastructure will transform the region for the better."

The project involves a 14-kilometer section connecting Cambrils, Salou, and Vila-seca. While the main works will start this summer, several key sections and the connection to the Adif railway station are still awaiting final approval.
