The operations to permanently seal and isolate the wells of the Castor platform, located 20 kilometers off the coast of Tarragona, are expected to conclude their main phase this summer.

Currently, the mission focuses on reinforcing the safety of the former gas storage site. All wells already have a primary bottom plug ensuring total isolation, while the Noble Resolve jack-up rig is now installing the second and third safety barriers. So far, three out of the thirteen wells have been fully sealed.
This highly complex technical intervention began in April 2025. Once the sealing process is finished, the project will move into a new stage involving the decommissioning and removal of the offshore metal structures.
The Castor Project was halted by the Government in September 2013. The shutdown followed more than 1,000 earthquakes triggered by gas injection into the underwater reservoir, affecting the coastlines of Castellón and Tarragona.
