With this new opening, Charter's network in Catalan territory now stands at 179 supermarkets. The inauguration in Torredembarra is part of an expansion wave that has seen the creation of 22 new Charter establishments during the first half of the year, between February and July.
Catalonia and the Valencian Community have been the main focus of this expansion, accounting for 18 of the new openings, with ten establishments in Catalonia and eight in the Valencian Community. In addition to Torredembarra, Charter has opened stores in locations such as L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, Navarcles, Barberà del Vallès, Santa Margarida de Montbui, Barcelona, Cornellà de Llobregat, Pineda de Mar, and Camprodon.
The company plans to continue with its expansion strategy in the coming months, aiming to open approximately 37 additional stores throughout 2026. This growth is significantly driven by entrepreneurs who already manage the chain's establishments, as 91% of Charter's new openings this year are managed by existing franchisees.
By mid-July, Charter's total network in Spain had reached 526 establishments. The distribution by autonomous communities includes 231 in the Valencian Community, 179 in Catalonia, 69 in Castilla-La Mancha, 19 in Andalusia, 21 in the Region of Murcia, and seven in Aragon. The franchise network's turnover currently represents 17.3% of Consum's total.
Consum anticipates an 8.2% increase in the turnover of its Charter network during 2026, exceeding 964 million euros. The Valencian cooperative, founded in 1975, views this business line as a complementary activity to its own supermarket network, which comprises over 1,000 establishments.
