Civil Protection has activated the pre-alert of the Procicat plan to assist drivers affected by traffic jams on the AP-7 highway and other Catalan roads, due to closures caused by the education sector strike.

The strike in the education sector in Catalonia has caused significant closures this Wednesday on seven sections of the AP-7 highway in the provinces of Barcelona, Tarragona, and Girona, as well as interruptions on the A-2 in Lleida. This situation has prompted Civil Protection to activate the Procicat plan's pre-alert to assist drivers stranded in traffic jams, some of which have lasted for hours. The Red Cross is also providing supplies to those affected.
In Barcelona, the Servei Català de Trànsit reports that the section in La Roca del Vallès is closed in both directions, while in Montornès del Vallès the interruption affects traffic heading north. In Tarragona, the AP-7 is closed near Vila-seca (northbound), at Altafulla (in both directions), and in El Vendrell (southbound). In the province of Girona, closures are located in Riudellots de la Selva (northbound) and Sant Julià de Ramis (southbound). The A-2 road in Lleida remains interrupted in both directions.
This mobilization marks the fourth general strike day called for public education in Catalonia during the current academic year. The main sector unions, Ustec and Professors de Secundària (Aspepc-Sps), along with others like CGT and Intersindical, are the organizers. Negotiations with the Generalitat's Department of Education have progressed, with an offer of an 80 million euro salary supplement for this year, amounting to approximately 35 additional gross euros per month per teacher. A resolution to the conflict could be reached today in the sixth meeting of the sectoral table.
