The Constantí City Council approved on Thursday that the public company FuneCamp will take over the management of the local cemetery starting in 2029, following the expiration of the current private contract.

The motion was supported by PSC and ERC, while Vox voted against it. This move reinforces the commitment to the regional public funeral service serving the Camp de Tarragona area.

"The funeral company is a legal, viable project backed by rigorous technical reports."

The approval comes after a Tarragona court recently annulled the March 2024 agreements that created FuneCamp, citing concerns over the entity's financial sustainability and economic planning.
Mayor Òscar Sánchez confirmed that the city will file an appeal with the High Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) to overturn the judicial decision and ensure the project's future.
