Specifically, between May 2025 and May of this year, 3,023 criminal incidents were recorded, the majority against property. This was detailed by the regional deputy chief for the Camp de Tarragona of the Mossos d'Esquadra, who highlighted the good collaboration between police forces as key to this reduction.
The city's mayor, while celebrating the decrease, reiterated the request for a dedicated Basic Police Area (ABP) to increase the presence of Mossos d'Esquadra, considering the three million annual visitors the municipality receives. He emphasized the need to improve security by the Generalitat, especially given that the visitor figure, including those from PortAventura, amounts to over eight million.
The most concerning crimes are those against persons, although they are numerically fewer than property crimes. Pickpocketing remains the most common, followed by scams, while thefts from inside vehicles have decreased by around 40%. The importance of education on scams and network usage is highlighted.
The municipality has 114 local police officers, a figure considered "much higher" than in other cities of 33,000 inhabitants. Despite the crime reduction, the demand for an ABP to increase the number of Mossos remains.
Regarding the summer period, a reinforcement of police operations is expected with a higher deployment than in previous years, thanks to new officers. "Very specific and surgical" operations are planned in coordination with the Local Police.
The mayor also addressed the issue of 'top manta' street vending, asking Cambrils to remove the market from its municipality, as it occurs on the border with Salou and the latter's local police cannot act there.
