The Mediation Orientation Service (SOM) of the ICAT received 148 requests during 2025 across the judicial districts of Tarragona, Valls, and El Vendrell, according to the report presented on Wednesday.

The Il·lustre Col·legi de l'Advocacia de Tarragona (ICAT) presented the annual report of the Mediation Orientation Service (SOM) on January 21, coinciding with European Mediation Day. The service handled a total of 148 requests across the judicial districts of Tarragona, Valls, and El Vendrell during 2025.

"We have a quite significant and positive increase; from 66 requests in 2024, it has risen to 110 last year."

Isabel Morales · President of the ICAT ADR and Mediation Commission
The President of the ADR and Mediation Commission, Isabel Morales, emphasized that the entry into force of Law 1/2025 has been crucial for this surge. Direct SOM requests rose from 66 in 2024 to 110 in 2025, in addition to 38 requests originating from duty lawyers.
Regarding geographical distribution, Tarragona processed 55 SOM requests, El Vendrell 30, and Valls 23. Morales also stressed the need for increased economic resources to cover the service's derived costs, especially notifications to the opposing party, which often require sending expensive certified letters (burofaxes).
