The Tarragona Camp Metropolitan Area (AMT) will expand its coverage with the incorporation of eight new municipalities by late June, adding nearly 68,000 inhabitants and strengthening coordination in transport and services.

The initiative, which began just six months ago with seven founding cities, has successfully convinced several local councils to join the Association for Impulse, the embryo of the AMT. This expansion includes towns such as Altafulla, Els Pallaresos, El Catllar, La Pobla de Mafumet, Creixell, Vallmoll, and Els Garidells, in addition to El Vendrell under a special regime.
With these additions, the metropolitan group will exceed 430,000 people and cover over 360 km², encompassing four comarcas. The official integration will be formalized at a meeting scheduled for late June, which will serve as a procedural act to welcome new members and explain the entity's operations.

"We are the second most important metropolitan area in Catalonia."

Among the main priorities for the newly incorporated municipalities is the improvement of public transport, mobility, and territorial cohesion. Proximity to cities like Tarragona and Reus, along with employment and social connections, are key challenges in metropolitan planning. Emphasis is also placed on urban development and the need for a joint housing strategy.
The case of El Vendrell is unique, as it will integrate into the AMT structure through a collaboration agreement granting it "voice but no vote" in committees. This alliance will be primarily political, without initial economic exchange, and will allow the municipality to participate in areas of interest such as mobility, tourism, water management, and waste.
