The Municipal Transport Company (EMT) of Tarragona has presented the urban transport lines restructuring project, which will adapt the network to 17 daytime routes to enhance service quality starting in June 2026.

The new bus map for Tarragona proposes a total of 17 daytime lines —one less than the current 18—, maintaining the three night lines and the summer line. The main goal of the EMT is to improve frequency, reduce travel times, and strengthen connectivity between neighborhoods while maintaining operational costs. The new network prioritizes more direct routes and a clearer structure to facilitate public use.

"this restructuring responds to the EMT's commitment to more efficient, accessible, and easy-to-understand public transport that addresses the real needs of the neighborhoods and the city as a whole."

Among the main changes, the EMT network coverage is expanded, increasing from 211 to 218 kilometers. A proximity model is consolidated, as nine out of ten residents in Tarragona will have a bus stop within a five-minute walk. Notable changes include the reorganization in the Sant Salvador neighborhood, with lines L-5 and L-85 being adjusted to connect directly with the Hospital Joan XXIII.
In the Ponent neighborhoods, key routes such as L-34 are redesigned to connect La Floresta with the CAP La Granja and Torreforta. Line L-54, starting in Bonavista, will pass through Hospital Viamed and the Anella Mediterrània. In Sant Pere i Sant Pau, the new line L-60 is created as a direct connection to the center, while line L-3 will absorb L-30, linking La Canonja and Bonavista to the center via the N-340.

"this restructuring represents a step forward in having a more understandable public transport system, with better connections and a more regular service, reinforcing the role of the bus as a real alternative to the private vehicle."
