The maritime district of Tarragona has established itself as a benchmark for traditional maritime music with the conclusion of the 34th edition of the ‘Havaneres al Port’ cycle. The four performances scheduled at the Pèrgola del Serrallo during the Saturdays of July drew nearly 2,000 attendees, who also had the opportunity to enjoy unique experiences such as ‘Live the Havanera from the Sea’.
The program featured renowned groups such as Els Pescadors de l’Escala, La Vella Lola, Terra Endins, and Peix Fregit. The reintroduction of the 'rom cremat' (burnt rum) tasting, one of this year's novelties, was very well received by the public and contributed to a more immersive experience, solidifying the Serrallo as the main hub for havanera music in Catalunya Sud (Southern Catalonia).
Each concert attracted around five hundred people, filling the area near the fishermen's boats. "After 34 editions, we can affirm that 'Havaneres al Port' has become a July night classic in the Serrallo," stated Sandra Coloma, head of the Teatret del Serrallo and the music cycle. She added that "the long trajectory and the positive reception the cycle receives year after year from the public have established the maritime district as the cultural epicenter of havanera music in Catalunya Sud".
In addition to the concerts, the activity ‘Live the Havanera from the Sea’, held on Tuesdays in July aboard the vessel Tarragona Blau, was very well received. This initiative, led by Quimet el Romesquet, offered an immersion into the origin and meaning of havaneras through their lyrics, instruments, and anecdotes. The paid activity sold out for all six sessions that were held.
