Catalan firefighters responded to 257 emergency calls due to intense winds this Wednesday, with the highest number of incidents reported in the Barcelona and Tarragona areas.

The Catalan Firefighters managed a total of 257 warnings between midnight and 10:00 AM this February 11 due to severe gales. The North emergency region was the hardest hit with 102 services, followed by Tarragona with 50 calls and the South region with 52.

Civil Protection has activated the Ventcat plan alert due to the risk of high winds across the territory.

The 112 emergency hotline received 99 calls regarding 68 different incidents by 6:00 AM. The most affected counties were Barcelonès, Vallès Oriental, and Vallès Occidental, with Barcelona city recording 36 emergency calls.
Storm Nils caused very intense wind gusts overnight, reaching 101 km/h in El Perelló and 80 km/h in Mont-roig del Camp. In the city of Tarragona, the Meteocat weather service recorded gusts of up to 75 km/h.
