Firefighters respond to nearly 2,000 wind-related incidents across Catalonia

The Barcelona metropolitan area concentrates most alerts as emergency services handle a peak in calls.

The Catalan Firefighters have responded to 1,953 calls related to strong winds across Catalonia since midnight this Thursday, mainly affecting the Barcelona area.

The windstorm hitting the region has kept emergency teams busy throughout the day. According to official data, the North Metropolitan region is the most affected with 1,031 warnings, followed by the South Metropolitan with 699. In Tarragona, 46 alerts were recorded.
Most services involved removing fallen trees from roads and securing loose objects. The 112 emergency number received 2,159 calls, with 530 coming from the city of Barcelona alone.
By county, Barcelonès accounts for 35% of the alerts, followed by Vallès Occidental at 16%. Authorities advise caution during travel and avoiding wooded areas until the wind subsides.
