Measuring 124 meters in length and valued at approximately $400 million, the vessel arrived from Gibraltar. It is considered one of the largest yachts in the world, boasting 40 cabins and a crew of up to 90 people. The ship is expected to remain in Tarragona for an extended period, utilizing the port as its Mediterranean base.
Built by the German shipyard Lurssen in 2010, the Katara features an exterior design by Espen Øino and interiors by Alberto Pinto. Facilities on board include a helipad, multiple swimming pools, a gym, a spa, and a cinema. The annual operating cost for such a vessel is estimated between $25 million and $40 million.
The owner, Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, ruled Qatar from 1995 to 2013 and was instrumental in founding Al Jazeera. His presence in the region highlights Tarragona's growing reputation as a preferred destination for high-end maritime tourism and international luxury vessels.
