The municipal council will guarantee the continuity of the service starting in 2026, but will have to adjust frequency to cope with the cost increase.

La Canonja City Council will fully assume the cost of bus lines 3 and 30 connecting the municipality with Tarragona starting in 2026, resulting in necessary schedule adjustments.

Lines 3 and 30, which link downtown Tarragona with La Canonja and pass through neighborhoods like Bonavista and Torreforta, will be entirely managed and funded by the local council. This change follows new economic conditions imposed by Tarragona City Council.
Although inter-municipal mobility is the responsibility of the Generalitat de Catalunya (Catalan Government), La Canonja had assumed a significant portion of the cost for these lines over the past 15 years, inherited from the period when it was annexed to Tarragona. This financial effort cost approximately 600,000 euros in 2025.

"We do not renounce public transport or the connection with Tarragona. We defend the interests of our municipality and assume responsibilities that do not belong to us, but we do so with criteria of economic sustainability."

Roc Muñoz · Mayor of La Canonja
Effective 2026, Tarragona voids the current agreement, transferring the total cost to La Canonja, with a potential annual impact exceeding 1.6 million euros. To make the service viable, the council has chosen to guarantee continuity by slightly adjusting the frequency, resulting in a projected final cost of 1.2 million euros.
La Canonja City Council has reiterated its commitment to continue working to find fair and stable solutions that ensure dignified mobility and, if possible, improve the connection with Tarragona in the future.
