The Mussara Salou Costa Daurada has established itself as an unmissable event on the national cycling calendar, attracting 3,000 cyclists in its most recent edition, marking a record number of registrations. The event, which began in 2014, has become a benchmark for thousands of cycling enthusiasts.
With start and finish in Salou, the twelfth edition featured a completely new route, taking the peloton through roads in the Costa Daurada and Priorat regions. One of the notable novelties was the absence of the traditional Coll de la Mussara, the pass that gave the event its name.
The day began at 7:00 AM with a neutralized start from Salou, in collaboration with the City Council, Local Police, and Mossos d’Esquadra. The weather conditions were ideal for cycling, and the peloton rode together until the coll de la Teixeta, where the long and short routes diverged.
Participants could choose between two modalities: the long route, covering 171 kilometers with nearly 2,500 meters of accumulated positive elevation gain, including ascents to coll de la Teixeta (twice), Torroja, Margalef, and Porrera. The short route, 106 kilometers with around 1,350 meters of elevation, passed through coll de la Teixeta, Porrera, and Torre de Fontaubella.
Beyond the sporting challenge, this year's edition was marked by an emotional tribute to August Pascual, a figure closely linked to the world of cycling and a resident of Reus, who passed away last January.
The Mussara brought together diverse profiles, from competitive groups to cyclists enjoying the route at a more relaxed pace. Teams linked to municipalities, clubs, and brands were also present, such as RACC HolaBICI, with a notable female representation.
The participation of women was another distinctive feature, with hundreds of cyclists coloring parts of the route pink, reflecting the commitment to inclusion that has been part of the Mussara's DNA since its inception.
The activity began on Saturday at the Plaça de les Comunitats Autònomes, the event's logistical hub and the venue for the pre-event fair, where participants collected bib numbers and engaged in activities organized by sponsors.
The cycling festival concluded on Sunday at the finish line in Salou with the traditional pasta party, a meeting point to refuel and bring a close to a massive edition that officially opens the Mussara 2026 calendar.
The next event on the circuit will be the Mussara 24H Circuit de Barcelona–Catalunya, scheduled for the weekend of July 4th and 5th.
