The Tarragona City Council and the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility have agreed to start construction of the new bike and pedestrian lane on the N-340 road in September, thus avoiding interference with intense summer traffic to the beaches.

This joint decision by both administrations aims to facilitate connection with Tarragona's beaches via the N-340 and promote sustainability. The project also includes the construction of a similar lane over the Francolí river bridge and the installation of acoustic screens on the A-7 highway, in Tarragona's first ring road, to reduce noise for residents.
The project, which has been awarded for 7.8 million euros, addresses several current needs. The main actions include the creation of a pedestrian and bike lane on the N-340, from the interchange with the A-7 highway to the municipal boundary with Altafulla, as well as the aforementioned lane on the Francolí river bridge and acoustic screening on the A-7.

"These actions are fundamental to continue advancing towards a more friendly, more connected, and more sustainable city."

the mayor of Tarragona
The municipal official highlighted that the start of works in September will allow a strategic project for Tarragona to be compatible with tourist activity and usual summer mobility, especially in a very sensitive area due to beach access. He also emphasized the collaboration between the Tarragona City Council and the Ministry of Transport to make these improvements a reality, long demanded by citizens, which will improve the safety and quality of life of residents, while promoting healthier and more sustainable mobility.
