Torrential rains have hit southern Catalonia overnight, causing floods, disrupting transport, and generating hundreds of alerts for emergency services.

El Vendrell and Torredembarra have experienced extreme rainfall, with amounts ranging from 140 liters per square meter and potentially exceeding 200 liters in some areas between 10 PM and 6 AM. These rains have particularly affected the northern coast of Tarragonès and the southern part of Baix Penedès. El Vendrell alone recorded 100 liters in just three hours.
The Catalan Water Agency has issued a hydrological warning due to potential sudden increases in river and stream flows in the area. The emergency number 112 handled nearly 700 calls, while firefighters responded to 192 incidents overnight.
Images shared on social media show completely flooded streets, especially along El Vendrell's seafront, where water entered ground floors and hotel lobbies. Around a hundred young people had to spend the night in a nightclub until an bus transferred them to a temporary shelter opened at the Pla de Mar school.
Firefighters received over a hundred alerts, primarily in Creixell, Roda de Berà, Torredembarra, and El Vendrell. In Creixell, 300 people were evacuated from the Les Sirenes campsite. In Roda de Berà, three people sustained minor injuries when a wall collapsed at the Port. Shelters have been set up at the Roda de Berà sports center and the Creixell municipal center.
Railway traffic has been severely impacted. The flooding of the Sant Vicenç de Calders station led to the activation of the Ferrocat plan in pre-alert, disrupting several lines including R2 Sud, R4, R13, R14, R15, R16, R17, and RT2. Additionally, one lane of the AP-7 southbound near Riera de Gaià was closed, and the N-340 remained shut all night due to floods that trapped vehicles.
