The transition from 12 to 4 school zones in Tarragona has resulted in nearly 80% of students enrolling in their local area, up from 60%. Researchers Adrián Zancajo and Aida Martínez emphasize that while this is a positive step toward reducing segregation, the full impact of the policy will require at least five academic cycles to be accurately measured.
“"There is a very significant increase in students who are schooled in their area of residence."
The report also highlights concerns regarding the upcoming enrollment process, specifically the different student-to-teacher ratios between public and semi-private schools. Experts suggest that Tarragona must address these imbalances to ensure a fair distribution of students across the city's educational network.
