Opponents of the Aragon-Tarragona high-voltage power line (MAT) have gathered nearly 3,000 signatures in just two days to challenge the Red Eléctrica project.

Organizations including GEPEC and the Unió de Pagesos union are leading the campaign across the Tarragonès and Priorat regions. They argue the project, connecting Escatrón to la Secuita, poses significant risks to public health and the local agricultural economy.

"We stopped it in 2012, we stopped it in 2022, and we will stop it in 2026."

Xavi Jiménez · President of GEPEC
The legal battle focuses on the lack of alternative studies and the impact on protected species like the Bonelli's eagle. Most local town councils have joined the protest, and activists are prepared to take the case to European Union courts if necessary.
