The Moroccan Consulate General in Tarragona has reported an exponential rise in requests for criminal record certificates ahead of the extraordinary regularization process planned by the Government for April.

The workload at the headquarters in the Sant Pere i Sant Pau neighborhood has forced emergency measures. Official data shows that daily appointment requests have surged from 300 to 3,000. To manage this volume, three new employees have been hired, and daily opening hours have been extended by three hours, including weekend openings from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

"From 300 daily appointment requests, we have gone to 3,000. There is a very high demand."

One of the most requested documents is the apostilled criminal record certificate. To speed up the process, the consulate has removed the requirement for powers of attorney in Morocco, now managing the documents directly via diplomatic pouch. This exceptional measure aims to reduce costs and waiting times for citizens seeking to legalize their status.
Additionally, Consul Ikram Chahine warned about the risk of scams and criminal networks exploiting migrants' desperation. She strongly advised using only registered managers and reputable professionals to avoid fraud during the documentation gathering process.
