The study, using iRAP methodology, analyzed the national road network between 2022 and 2024. This specific six-kilometer stretch near Tarragona saw three fatal or serious accidents, despite a relatively low daily traffic volume of 2,319 vehicles.
The province is also home to the N-420, which ranks as the second highway in Spain with the most high-risk kilometers, totaling 149 kilometers of dangerous roadway. Nationally, 11.8% of the state network is classified as high or very high risk.
Experts from RACC noted that while overall accident rates have decreased since 2010, risk levels on motorways and dual carriageways have increased for the first time in 15 years. Conventional single-carriageway roads remain the most hazardous, accounting for all ten of the highest-risk sections in the country.
