The public company Incasòl has had to restart the processing of a restoration project for Tarragona's Wall, situated on Baixada del Roser, which has become outdated due to the long wait. This means the works, initially planned for after last year's Santa Tecla festivities, cannot begin in 2026.
The contract had already been awarded to the company Solvetia SL, but the Generalitat de Catalunya rescinded the agreement when the contractor requested a budget increase exceeding 30%. The decision was based on the assessment that this deviation could cause future problems, even though the project, initiated in 2018 under the councilorship of Begoña Floria, had already become obsolete due to the delay.
Currently, Incasòl is working on updating the figures for the intervention, which was initially awarded for 255,193 euros (VAT included). Furthermore, the necessary administrative procedures for its execution are being carried out, including the formalization of a new agreement with the Ajuntament de Tarragona to define each party's investment. Subsequently, the Generalitat will open a new tender process, with no known date yet.
The works will affect a section of approximately 263 meters, between Portal del Roser and Plaça de Sant Joan. The structural rehabilitation includes replacing deteriorated floor slabs, cleaning and adapting interior voids for future maintenance, and paving the wall walk. The estimated duration is eight months.
This section corresponds to the second construction phase of the Muralla de Tarraco (150-125 BC). The fortification suffered damage during the Peninsular War. Previous interventions were carried out between 2010-2011 and in 2017. The current phase (VI), according to the Wall Master Plan approved in 2016, is now stalled at Baixada del Roser.
