The president of the Port of Tarragona, Santiago J. Castellà, proposed a strategic alliance this Tuesday in Zaragoza to consolidate northeastern Spain as a highly competitive logistics and railway hub.

During a conference at the Zaragoza Chamber of Commerce, the Port of Tarragona strengthened its ties with Aragon. The goal is to create synergies to improve rail freight transport and leverage key projects such as the future Andalusia Quay terminal and the Guadalajara-Marchamalo dry port.

"The ports of Tarragona and Barcelona must work together with the Aragonese logistics sector to maintain and increase our competitiveness."

While current trade focuses on agrifood products like cereals, Castellà highlighted growth potential in paper pulp, vehicles, wind energy components, and construction materials. The new maritime terminal currently under tender will have a capacity of 125,000 TEUs.
The strategy also features the PortTarragona Terminal Guadalajara-Marchamalo, a 150,000 m2 facility near Madrid. This logistics center will connect the Mediterranean, Ebro, and Henares corridors, facilitating cargo movement across the peninsula and Europe.
