The Statistical Institute of Catalonia (Idescat) has released the Territorial Socioeconomic Index (IST) for 2023, highlighting Renau, Almoster, and L'Argentera as the top-performing municipalities in the province.

The socio-economic ranking for Tarragona is topped by Renau, which achieved a score of 126.1 points. It is followed by Almoster at 123.5 and L'Argentera at 120. All three towns significantly exceed the Catalonia average of 100 points.
These municipalities stand out for combining high per capita income, low unemployment rates, and a highly educated population. Renau, a small village of about one hundred residents, has shown consistent growth compared to its 2022 score of 124.1.
In contrast, the IST report points to a socio-economic gap in the region, with lower indicators found in areas such as Terra Alta, Ribera d'Ebre, Baix Penedès, and Baix Ebre, where scores remain below the national average.
