Storm Regina has significantly impacted the reservoirs of Tarragona this March 2026, pushing the Riudecanyes dam beyond its maximum operational capacity.

The intense rainfall has transformed the water situation in the region. The Riudecanyes reservoir reached a historic 100.38% of its volume, storing 5.322 cubic hectometers. Managers have initiated preventive discharge controls to ensure the safety of the dam infrastructure.
Meanwhile, the Siurana reservoir has seen a notable increase, currently standing at 66.7% with 8.014 hm³. In contrast, the Gaià reservoir remains at a concerning 10.275%, highlighting the uneven impact of the recent storms across different basins.
While the rain brings hope to local farmers and irrigation communities, experts remind the public that the long-term drought is not yet over, and water resources must still be managed with caution.
