This certification attests to the fulfillment of commitments and actions established by Biosphere, aligned with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations' Agenda 2030. It highlights a strategy that integrates sustainability transversally in destination management.
This recognition reinforces Salou's positioning as a city committed to growing better, preserving the territory, improving urban spaces, promoting social cohesion, and ensuring a higher quality of life for residents and visitors.
“"Sustainability is part of the Salou we are building."
The Mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, positively assessed the certification, stating it "is a recognition of a way of understanding the city and its future." He emphasized that sustainability "is not a label, but a permanent commitment" that must be present in all decisions.
Granados advocated for a model where tourism continues to be a driver of prosperity and employment, while simultaneously contributing to making Salou a better city. "Our objective is very clear: for Salou to be increasingly better to live in, work in, and visit," he affirmed.
The Biosphere Destination 2026 certification reinforces a strategic line that Salou has consolidated in recent years, understanding sustainability from an environmental, social, cultural, and economic perspective. This allows the destination to face the challenges of high tourist attraction while balancing tourism activity with resource protection and quality of life.
Salou acknowledges that the future of tourist destinations will be increasingly linked to their ability to better manage resources, adapt to new challenges, innovate, and generate shared value. Sustainability thus becomes a continuous improvement process requiring planning, institutional commitment, and the joint involvement of the administration, the tourism sector, the business and social fabric, and citizens.
Achieving this certification represents an endorsement of the path taken and an incentive to continue progressing, reaffirming Salou's commitment to being a modern, responsible, and innovative destination, prepared for future challenges.
