The event, held on the first section of the Jaume I promenade, a location rich in symbolism for this popular cultural expression, was attended by the Culture Councillor, Júlia Gómez, and the president of the organizing entity, Sílvia Rovira. Both participated in presenting commemorative tokens to all participants.
This annual gathering serves as a meeting point for numerous bobbin lace associations, fostering the exchange of experiences, knowledge, and creativity surrounding this artisanal technique. Bobbin lace allows for the creation of fine and complex filigrees using a cardboard pattern, threads, bobbins, and needles, resulting in diverse pieces such as umbrellas, bookmarks, bracelets, or fans.
The day also paid tribute to the oldest lace maker, a 93-year-old resident of Cambrils, and the youngest participants, three 8-year-old children from El Vendrell and Torredembarra. This recognition underscores the importance of generational succession for the continuation of this traditional craft.
The event not only champions bobbin lace as cultural heritage but also strengthens social bonds and the active role of local entities. Participants had the opportunity to purchase specific materials at specialized stalls, and the day concluded with a raffle, all under sunny skies by the sea.
