The city of Salou has welcomed the 2026-2027 school year with a gathering of the educational community held at the Xalet Fort. The event particularly highlighted the tribute to those professionals who have dedicated a lifetime to teaching.
Presided over by the Mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, and the Councilor for Education, Júlia Gómez, the day brought together directors, management teams, and teachers from the municipality's educational centers. The excitement for the new academic year was celebrated, along with deep gratitude for teachers concluding their professional careers after decades in the classroom.
One of the most emotional moments was the municipal recognition of seven teachers who retired during the 2025-2026 academic year: Belén Martí Bertrand and Carme Bonet Caro (Escola Salou); Maria del Carme Miró Solé and Lola Benavides Morales (Escola Santa Maria del Mar); Coia Olivares Domínguez (Escola Europa); Inés María Muñoz Suescun (Institut Marta Mata); and Marisa López García (Institut Jaume I). The mayor presented them with a plaque on behalf of the city.
Councilor Júlia Gómez championed the work of education professionals, stating, "You educate people, accompany growth processes, identify needs, and inspire vocations." She highlighted the launch of the new Cap de Salou Institute-School as a key achievement for the year, a much-anticipated project that will enhance educational services.
Pere Granados emphasized that teachers' legacy extends beyond lessons taught, residing in their ability to help students discover their capabilities, gain confidence, or find their path. He recalled Nelson Mandela's quote: "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world."
The start of the school year also marks the inauguration of the new Cap de Salou Institute-School, a facility aimed at improving educational services and the quality of life in the municipality. The mayor highlighted the event's venue, the Xalet Fort, as heritage transformed into an educational tool, advocating that "Heritage and education must go hand in hand."
The event concluded with a photograph of the honored teachers and the directors, symbolizing the continuity between professionals closing one chapter and those beginning a new academic year with fresh challenges.
