The Salou Town Council and the Generalitat de Catalunya have begun preparations for the total Solar eclipse that will darken the Costa Daurada sky on August 12, 2026.

This astronomical event, considered the most significant of the century in Catalonia, will turn day into night for a few minutes in mid-summer. The path of totality will cross Catalan territory, offering absolute darkness during its central phase, an event not seen for over a hundred years.
The town of Salou stands out as one of the best locations to follow the phenomenon due to its open sea horizon and favorable orientation. The event will also coincide with the Nits Daurades festivities, leading to expected high attendance at local beaches and viewpoints.
Recently, the Minister of Universities, Núria Montserrat, met with Mayor Pere Granados to coordinate the details of this historic milestone. During the eclipse, temperatures are expected to drop slightly, and the solar corona will be visible to the naked eye.
